There’s plenty to look forward to when the action gets underway at the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland.
As pointed out by Anna Willcox, a freestyle skier who represented New Zealand at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and is now a reporter for The Crowd Goes Wild:
“You don’t want to miss it. Last year was absolutely epic. It’s such an amazing day out, and you don’t have to be a sailing fan to enjoy it.”
But fans of the Rolex SailGP Championship also don’t want to miss out on some good betting opportunities regarding what might happen out on the water over the weekend.
Here’s a look at some of the main markets away from the event winner market, which has already been covered elsewhere.
Before we get into that, here’s a quick recap of the Championship winner market odds after the first event of the season, the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix presented by KPMG.
Who Are the Favorites For the Championship?
Defending SailGP champions, the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team, are the early favorites after drawing first blood in Perth with the event win and the 10 points that go with it. They’re 3.7.
Next up are the BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, who were runners-up in both the 2025 Rolex SailGP Championship and in the opening event of the 2026 season: they’re just a bit bigger at 3.85.
Then it’s the DS Automobiles SailGP Team France at 4.17.
At 7.14, you can back the Black Foils SailGP Team, but that comes with a caveat: they didn’t score any points at all in Perth, having crashed right at the start of the opening race and not taking part in any further racing.
Then again, the same can be said of the Switzerland SailGP Team (odds of 90.91), who were the other team involved in that crash, and the Los Gallos SailGP Team (14.29), who didn’t even start the first race after problems of their own in Friday’s practice.
Who Can Set a Marker with a Race 1 Win?
No surprises as to who leads the betting to take Race 1.
It’s Dylan Fletcher and his Emirates GBR crew at 5.26, with that man Tom Slingsby and the BONDS Flying Roos just behind them at 5.63.
Peter Burling’s Black Foils are next at 6.32 with DS Automobiles SailGP Team France at 9.33.
That’s not a bad-looking price about the latter, a team that won Race 2 just under a month ago and showed remarkable consistency throughout the whole event, with a further four podium finishes.
That said, they didn’t take part in last year’s event in Auckland due to the discovery of a problem with the titanium wingsail connectors on the team’s new F50, which could not be fixed in time for them to compete. So they didn’t have the experience of racing here last year.
Look Out For Artemis SailGP Team When It Comes To a Place In the Final
It’s the same teams trading as favorites to make the final on Sunday.
Emirates GBR is 1.46, the Kiwis are 1.5, and the Australians are available at 1.69.
In our other preview, we had already highlighted SailGP debutants, the Artemis SailGP Team, as a good-value bet, but if the 13.0 on them taking the 10 points in Auckland seems like a bridge too far, then how about the 3.89 that they just make the final?
They finished fourth after the fleet races in Auckland, narrowly missing out on a place in the final, so it’s not that great an ask that they go one better here, especially now that they have a SailGP event under their belts.
