SailGP Geneva 2025 Betting Preview: Just Three Points Split First and Third In The Standings

by Emma Harrison

Last week, fans of SailGP had a thrilling day’s racing to watch on Friday in Saint-Tropez, with four different winners on the day including a first-ever SailGP race win for Red Bull Italy SailGP Team and a somewhat surprising third-place for Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team, in the final race of the day.

But there was no racing at all at the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix on Saturday, where adverse weather conditions in Saint-Tropez meant the scheduled second day of high-speed racing was called off in a bid to ensure the athletes’ safety, which is always of paramount importance to us.

But the far better news is that we’ve got a second event in as many weeks, as the action moves onto the inaugural Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix | Geneva at a truly unique setting.

Who Were the Big Winners in Saint-Tropez?

No one would have wanted the racing to be called off on Saturday, but if that’s going to happen, the next-best scenario is leading when the bad news comes in and that’s exactly what happened with Emirates Great Britain.

The Brits started off with a runner-up spot in Fleet Race 1, secured a creditable fourth place in the second race, only managed sixth spot in the third race but saved the best for last with victory in the fourth.

Emirates GBR were therefore awarded 31 points, with the Black Foils SailGP Team picking up 30 points and Los Gallos SailGP Team 25 points.

It’s Tight At the Top as Sportsbooks Update Their Latest Prices

And things are pretty tight at the top now. The Black Foils are leading the Rolex SailGP Championship on 70 points, with Emirates GBR moving up to second now, on 68, after last week’s big move. Meanwhile, the BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, who had a somewhat disappointing outing in Saint-Tropez by their own high standards, complete the podium with 67 points.

The sportsbooks have taken note of proceedings on the French Riviera.

The latest odds to win the Championship are as follows: the Kiwis are 2.9 favorites with the Brits 3.85, and the BONDS Flying Roos splitting the pair and currently trading as second favorites at 3.03, despite losing some ground last week.

Los Gallos, with that third-place finish, have been cut to 5.88 and they’re certainly not out of it, but the odds-compilers have pretty much dismissed the chances of a Championship bid by the France SailGP Team, who are at odds of 40.0 to win it.

France SailGP Team All But Out of The Championship Running

Much was expected of Quentin Delapierre and his crew after winning the Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz last month and being in conditions they were expected to know well last week. And he would have loved to have found success in front of his team’s adoring fans, as he said before the event:

“This city is really special, especially to the French, but internationally too. It’s charming – you’re sailing in front of the iconic church, many wonderful boats, and thousands of French sailing fans who just love to see SailGP in person.”

But it wasn’t meant to be for Delapierre, with a fourth-place finish in Fleet Race 3 on Friday the best he and his team had to show for their efforts.

Next Up: Switzerland

We head to the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva this weekend, with the first four races taking place on Saturday, before three more on Sunday precede the big final.

It’s a fresh opportunity for some of the teams who didn’t perform as well as they would have liked last week to fight back, while the likes of Emirates GBR, the Black Foils and Los Gallos will look to build on their momentum after strong showings in France.
