No one would have wanted to see the second day at the Rolex SailGP Championship ‘washed out’ as they say in the world of cricket, but unfortunately, that’s how things panned out in Saint-Tropez this weekend with Saturday’s Races 5 and 6, plus the final, canceled due to adverse weather conditions. But here’s how things are looking in the overall standings.
No Racing on Saturday
Here’s the official announcement from the Rolex SailGP Championship regarding why the event was called off on Saturday:
“Due to incoming thunderstorms, racing on day two of the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix | Saint-Tropez (Saturday September 13, 2025) has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank our fans and partners for their understanding and support. All ticket purchasers will be contacted directly about refunds.
Weekend results will be calculated based on the standings after Day 1. Congratulations to the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team, winners of the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix (10 points), followed by New Zealand in second (9) and Spain in third (8).”
It’s a reminder that the safety of the athletes in action and the spectators of a sold-out event is the main priority of the SailGP Championship.
A day’s racing, or non-racing as we now know, given what happened on Saturday, is not good news for anyone. After all, we all want to see the world’s best athletes to have ever stepped aboard a sailing boat shining at the highest level in this exhilarating sport’s flagship events, to be doing their stuff. That’s why we tune in and watch it.
Team GBR The Big Movers
So, where does this all leave us in terms of the Championship as a whole?
Well, the revised odds on the Championship winners have Emirates GBR as 3.85 third-favorites to win the 2025 Season of the Rolex SailGP Championship after their weather-affected success in France.
No surprises that the New Zealand Black Foils and the BONDS Flying Roos Sail GP Team still lead the betting at 2.90 and 3.3 respectively, but the weekend’s results have certainly thrown a wrench in the works with the Brits now just 3.85 for overall Championship glory, after they were 5.0 for season-long success, going into the French Riviera event.
Weather that doesn’t allow our incredible teams to compete is, unfortunately, par for the course from time to time. That said, we always try our best to get our premium athletes out there on the water for as long as we can, if it’s safe to do so.
Either way, the results this weekend have brought Emirates GBR firmly back into contention and they’re now just 3,85, from a price of 5.0, before the Saint-Tropez showdown.
They say that form is temporary and that class is permanent and both the New Zealand Black Foils and the Australian BONDS Flying Roos are trading at 2.9 and 3.03 respectively, to win this event’s overall Championship.
But there’s still a long way to go, with the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix just around the bend.
