Here’s a quick introduction to how we decide which are the best Australian sportsbooks, why the different considerations matter, and which five Aussie bookies we consider to be ticking the most boxes. Our Top Betting Reviews
Let’s look at some of the sportsbooks we found to be the best in our Australian betting reviews.
Picklebet
Picklebet is a fully licensed online bookmaker that first made a name for itself as an esports specialist. But these days, it offers a really good all-round sportsbook with a wide range of Aussie favourites, such as AFL, cricket, and rugby league. They’re good for same-race multis in horse racing as well as for same-game multis on the likes of basketball and soccer, and we found their odds to be pretty decent. The fact that they offer free-to-play pick’em contests with cash prizes on offer is another positive.
Unibet
Another sportsbook that was rated highly in our betting reviews, Unibet Australia is a good example of a bookie that’s been around forever (or at least for almost 30 years) so it has solved any problems along the way. The results are plenty of sports and markets offered, a great mobile app, a top-class user experience, and polite and knowledgeable customer service agents. Another great thing about them is that you can stream some of the biggest events via their Uibet TV for free, so you can see how your bets get on.
PlayUp
They’re another sportsbook that offers a great esports product, which is forever growing in popularity, while also treating the likes of cricket, golf, and AFL with the respect they deserve.
Betfair
Betfair made a splash in the UK in 2000 when it launched the world’s first-ever betting exchange that allowed punters to bet against each other by laying bets in addition to backing them.
Since 2006, it’s been available to Australian customers and Betfair Australia is the only licensed exchange in the country, so if you fancy the extra features an exchange has, give it a go.
But of course, it also has a perfectly good sportsbook that earned strong scores in our Australian betting reviews for its odds, range of markets, and the quality of its mobile app.
Bet365
As we often say here at SailGP, this is the bookie that does the lot.
A good starting point is the number of streamed events on offer at Bet365 Australia, such as soccer, tennis, racing, and basketball, with 100s of events available every week in HD quality.
They also offer as many sports as anyone else in the market, and if you’re into player prop markets, there are plenty of those on offer.
Add to that decent odds, a well-designed site and app, efficient Customer Service, and good payment options, and you can see why we like it so much.
How We Review Betting Sites in Australia
There are dozens of factors for us here at SailGP to consider when writing bookmaker reviews. They’re the factors that help us decide which Australian betting sites we consider the best and recommend to our readers. Here are some of the key ones.
Payment Methods & Security
Not the sexiest elements of a betting site, but certainly two of the most important ones. The bookie needs to have a good choice of payment methods so that any customer will already own at least one of them, and it’s also crucial that payments, both in and out, are processed quickly.
Security means your money and data are safe from hackers, and the sportsbook pays out on your winning bets and processes withdrawals without fuss.
Number of Available Sports
The more the better. It’s the bare minimum that the Australian betting site offers the main sports like rugby, AFL, soccer, tennis, and horse racing, but we also want to see them offer odds on more niche ones like snooker, water polo, or darts.
Number of Available Markets
Again, the more the better. Take cricket for example: we all know the match winner, innings runs, and top batsman/bowler markets are the most popular, but we also want to see the bookie offering markets like Player of the Match, who wins the toss, or how many runs a particular batter will score.
Odds
The most important consideration of all. Bigger odds than usual result in bigger payouts than usual, which helps you have a healthier P and L than if the odds weren’t great. When doing our bookmaker reviews, the sites with the highest odds tend to be ranked towards the top of our lists.
Special Bets
We all know about placing singles on different sports, but many customers like to seek higher odds by placing special bets such as accas, whether on the same sport or across different sports. Or same-game multi bets, known as Bet Builders in Europe, on such sports as rugby and soccer.
User Interface
The user interface (UI) at Australian betting sites refers to how the platform looks and functions for users.
A good UI is clean, fast, and well-designed, making it easy to find markets, place bets, and manage accounts. Clear navigation menus, responsive design, quick-loading pages, and simple bet slips all enhance usability and the punter’s overall experience.
Mobile optimisation is especially important for modern bettors, as so many of us use our phones for all our betting needs.
Customer Service
Another sometimes overlooked, but important aspect of our bookmaker reviews. Any punter will have, at one time or another, needed to contact Customer Service to query a bet, ask why a payment hasn’t gone through, or have another problem solved, so a betting site’s CS Team needs to be available round the clock, helpful, and efficient.
